Cyberattack on 270 firms and TEC disrupted & more
Today, a major cyberattack is affecting hundreds of Belgian organizations, while strikes are disrupting transport in Wallonia. The country is also facing a heatwave with temperatures exceeding 30°C.
At least 270 Belgian organizations are currently the target of an ongoing Russian cyberattack. Hackers are using a so-called "brute force" method, which involves automatically testing thousands of password combinations to force access to the systems of a firewall manufacturer (a computer security device). This intrusion, which began in February, could compromise the data security of the affected structures.
Your travels in Wallonia are heavily disrupted this Tuesday due to a day of union action on the TEC network, the Walloon public transport operator. The Liège-Verviers region is the most affected, with a dozen lines completely at a standstill and more than half of the trips disrupted. All Walloon provinces are reporting significant traffic disruptions on their usual bus lines.
Take precautions against the heat as the mercury will remain above 30°C today. After a few morning showers and possible thunderstorms, the weather will become very dry and stifling across the entire territory. It is advisable to stay hydrated and limit physical exertion outdoors during the hottest hours.
