At the G20 in Florida, the United States confirms Russia’s invitation
The United States announced that all G20 member countries will be invited to the summit scheduled in Florida. This includes Russia, despite strong international tensions. This information was given on Thursday by a senior White House official.
According to Washington, the invitation applies to all members of the group, without exception. On the Russian side, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov explained that the possible participation of President Vladimir Putin had not yet been discussed. At this stage, it is therefore not certain that he himself will attend the summit.
This announcement comes in a difficult geopolitical context. Relations between several Western countries and Russia remain tense. However, the decision to invite Moscow shows that the United States wants to maintain the full G20 format, which brings together the world’s major economies to discuss economic and international issues.
At the same time, financial markets also reacted to this climate of uncertainty. On Wall Street, indexes closed lower, under pressure from geopolitical concerns and rising energy prices. Even Tesla, despite good results, saw its stock fall.
The G20 summit in Florida is therefore expected to take place in a tense international environment. The guest list is now known, but several questions remain open, notably about the exact level of representation of certain countries, particularly Russia.
