Belgium: closure of 22 breast clinics planned for 2027
Belgium is preparing for a major reform of its health services with the planned closure of several centers specialized in cancer treatment. At the same time, the emergence of new modes of electric transport is transforming urban traffic, while international sports competitions continue.
Starting in January 2027, 22 breast clinics will no longer be authorized to perform breast cancer surgeries. This measure affects 11 establishments located in Wallonia. This decision stems from a reform of the hospital sector announced in March 2023 by the Federal Minister of Health, Frank Vandenbroucke. While the goal is to centralize care to improve treatment, some health professionals, such as Dr. Ysabel Struye, firmly oppose this decision, which they consider illogical.
In city centers, "fatbikes" — electric bikes equipped with very wide tires — are becoming a new challenge for mobility. Although their market share remains limited, their presence is raising safety concerns. In particular, some users are criticized for riding on sidewalks, which complicates the coexistence of cyclists and pedestrians in public spaces.
