The German gaming industry is thriving with sales of 4.6 billion euros.
The video game and computer game market in Germany is witnessing a revival after a lackluster year, with clear signs of recovery emerging in the first half of 2025. Sales in the sector, including games, gaming devices such as consoles, and online gaming services, have increased by 4% compared to last year, reaching around 4.6 billion euros, according to the German Games Industry Association Game. This announcement comes ahead of the highly anticipated Gamescom exhibition next week.
The strongest growth recorded in the devices sector, with sales jumping by 17% to exceed 1.2 billion euros. The biggest driver behind this increase was the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 gaming device, which sparked a wave of demand among consumers.
The giant Japanese company Nintendo has achieved a huge leap in sales thanks to the success of its new device. In the first four days of its launch in early June, about 3.5 million units of the Switch 2 were sold worldwide — the fastest sales rate of any previous gaming device.
Online gaming services — including networks, cloud services, and subscriptions — also saw a growth of 4%, with revenues reaching 621 million euros in the first half of the year, reflecting the continued demand for online connectivity and subscription-based gaming experiences.
However, not all sectors have witnessed growth, as revenues from game software sales fell by 2% to reach 2.7 billion euros. Despite this decline, the overall outlook for the industry remains positive with the continued expansion of hardware sales and online gaming services.
