Gaza flotilla intercepted by Israeli navy off Cyprus
Last Monday, a new maritime expedition called the "Gaza flotilla" was stopped by the Israeli navy. The group consisted of 430 people traveling on several boats. The interception took place in international waters, not far from the island of Cyprus, as the vessels were heading toward the Gaza Strip.
According to official information, the 430 passengers were transferred to Israel following the military intervention. Israeli authorities took control of the ships without reporting any major violent incidents during the operation. Members of this international mission came from various countries to participate in this symbolic action.
The primary objective of this flotilla was to transport humanitarian aid and denounce the maritime blockade imposed by Israel. The organizers hoped to draw the international community's attention to the difficult situation of the inhabitants of the Gaza Strip. However, the Israeli government asserts that these controls are necessary to ensure the security of its territory.
Currently, the passengers are under the responsibility of the Israeli authorities. According to standard procedures, most of them are expected to be deported to their countries of origin after being questioned. This event once again highlights the persistent tensions in this region of the Mediterranean.
