Preliminary corruption suspicion: The AfD party files a criminal complaint against the state minister of culture Weimer
The AfD party filed a criminal complaint against State Minister of Culture Wolfang Weimer due to corruption allegations linked to a prominent event organized by the Weimer Media Group, despite Chancellor Friedrich Merz publicly supporting him.
Parliament member Götz Frömming, in coordination with the AfD parliamentary group, submitted the complaint to the public prosecutor's office in Berlin. Authorities confirmed the receipt of four complaints but refrained from disclosing personal details due to privacy rules, and they will be reviewed to determine whether a formal investigation will be opened.
The debate centers around the Ludwig Erhard Summit at Lake Tegernsee, organized by Weimer and his wife Christiane Guetz-Weimer since 2014. Reports indicate that participation packages cost tens of thousands of euros, with promises of the ability to influence political decision-makers.
In response, Weimer announced that he would relinquish his shares in the Weimer Media Group in favor of a trustee, and confirmed that he had already given up his duties and voting rights in the company during the spring. He insisted that all accusations were false, describing the claims of selling political influence as 'just a lie.'
Despite Merz's support for Weimer, the AfD party continues to demand his dismissal. Fromming stated that companies paying for meetings with federal officials could be interpreted as an attempt to influence decisions for their personal benefit, describing the situation as an 'initial clash with corruption suspicions.'
