600 blood units, the blood donation in Graz continued until the early hours of dawn
The city of Graz showed humanitarian solidarity following the shooting incident that occurred on Tuesday. Hundreds responded to the Red Cross's call for blood donations, with around 600 bags of blood collected until late at night. The last donor left the donation center at 2 AM, as announced by the Red Cross on Wednesday morning.
The President of the Red Cross, Siegfried Schrittwieser, thanked the residents of Steiermark for their great support and the spirit of solidarity they have shown. For his part, the Director of Blood Donation Services in Steiermark, Christian Steinscherer, called for continued donations, pointing out the urgent need to compensate for the rapid shortage of blood supplies, especially during the summer. He emphasized that blood type O negative is particularly needed because it is used in emergencies without the need to know the recipient's blood type.
The private donation campaigns continue in Graz, with events organized at multiple locations, including the Sturm Graz training center at Sternäckerweg 118 on Wednesday and Thursday, as well as at the Österreichische Gesundheitskasse headquarters in Graz on Thursday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
The upcoming donation campaigns coincide with World Blood Donation Day, which falls on Saturday, where events will be held at ORF-Landesstudio Steiermark and the Graz City Hall on Friday, and at the blood bank of LKH Universitätsklinikum Graz on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
