Shooting at a school in Dortmund: victims and perpetrators are on the run

The police in Dortmund are investigating a violent brawl that broke out on Monday morning in front of the Karl-Schiller-Berufskolleg (Karl Schiller Vocational College) in the city center. According to authorities, the dispute among several individuals escalated quickly when one of them fired a weapon known as PTB – a type of firearm designed to fire signals, blank shots, or irritant gases. The suspect fled the scene immediately after the shooting.

Witnesses reported a state of panic as chaos reigned in the area around 9:45 AM. The police rushed to the scene and deployed a large force to secure the area and begin searching for the suspect. The weapon was later found on the ground and confiscated by officers. Authorities have opened an investigation into the serious assault, but the exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear.

Later that same day, the police confirmed that the altercation began between two individuals and escalated to the use of tear gas and the firing of two shots from an air rifle. Seven people sustained minor injuries from the gas, while the condition of the person injured by the shots remains unknown. The police reported that both the perpetrator and the injured person are still at large, prompting a citywide manhunt, but efforts so far have not yielded results.

The director of Karl-Schiller-Berufsschule confirmed that the suspect is not a student at the institute. According to his statement, the perpetrator had a dispute with 'two or three students', which led to the outbreak of the violent confrontation. The school remained under police guard for several hours while investigation teams gathered evidence and questioned witnesses.

The police urge anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 0231/132-7441. Although the direct threat has been removed, the incident has left students and staff in a state of concern, bringing back fears about safety in schools in Dortmund and the surrounding areas.
