Cyberattack on hospitals in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district
The LUP clinics in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district have fallen victim to a cyberattack. According to the district administration, several locations of the clinic group are affected by the technical problems. These include, among others, the hospitals in Parchim and Hagenow.
During the attack, the clinics' IT systems were specifically targeted. To prevent further damage and protect data, many computer systems were shut down as a precaution. This means that employees currently have only limited access to digital patient data, findings, or schedules.
However, according to current information, medical care for patients remains guaranteed. Emergencies continue to be admitted and treated, although delays may occur in daily clinic operations. In some cases, scheduled operations or examinations must be postponed until the computer systems are functioning safely and stably again.
Cybersecurity experts are already working intensively to investigate the cause and extent of the attack. The police and specialized authorities have also been informed of the incident. It is currently being checked whether sensitive data was stolen or whether it is an extortion attempt in which systems were encrypted.
Cyberattacks on medical facilities have increased worldwide in recent years. Those responsible in the district hope to be able to restart the IT infrastructure gradually soon. Until then, however, operations in the affected clinics remain in a state of emergency, while the security of the systems takes top priority.
