Shock in Vienna: 11,000 rounds and Nazi materials found inside an apartment
A routine emergency report in Wien-Hernals turned into a major police operation on December 11. Rescue teams entered an apartment in the seventeenth district and immediately noticed long weapons displayed openly inside. The 40-year-old man allowed officers from the Ottakring police department to enter.
Inside, the police found several firearms stored without any safety standards. Officers also discovered prohibited weapons, including a metal box and a collapsible baton. In total, approximately 11,000 rounds of ammunition and pepper spray canisters were found, all stored in an unsafe manner and posing a clear danger.
During the search, more dangerous items emerged. The authorities confiscated several Nazi uniforms, a Nazi flag, and even a statue of Hitler. All these materials were immediately seized, and the man was reported under the "Prohibition Law" that criminalizes Nazi symbols and propaganda.
Due to the negligent storage of weapons and ammunition, authorities imposed a temporary ban on the possession of firearms by the man in his forties. The police clarified that the situation inside the apartment indicates a significant ongoing danger for a long time.
The State Office for State Protection and Combating Extremism is conducting investigations into the case. Currently, an examination is underway to determine how the man obtained the weapons and prohibited materials, and whether there is any background or motives related to extremism.
