The Alternative Party reaches 37% in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern – the Socialist Party and the Left Democrats lose their majority

The Alternative Party reached 37% in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, according to a new poll conducted by the Forsa Institute on behalf of the Ostsee-Zeitung (Baltic Sea newspaper), placing it in the lead ahead of the regional elections.

The party has made continuous progress over the past year. Previous polls conducted by the Infraest Dimap for the North German Broadcasting Corporation (NDR) showed that the Alternative Party reached 38% at its highest level. Recent figures confirm its dominant position in the state.

The Social Democratic Party (SPD) led by Manuela Schwesig comes in second with 23%, followed by the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) with 13%, and the Left Party (Die Linke) with 11%. The Greens (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) and the Free Democratic Party (FDP) will fail to enter the regional parliament, while the alliance of Sarah Wagenknecht (BSW) receives 5%.

If these results are confirmed in the elections, the current red-red coalition will lose its majority. All major parties have ruled out cooperation with the Alternative Party, limiting realistic coalition options and increasing political uncertainty.

Hendrik Wüst warned that handing over power to anti-democratic forces would be dangerous, recalling lessons from Germany's past. The Secretary General of the Christian Democratic Union, Paul Ziemiak, described the situation as dangerous and accused the Alternative for Germany party of spreading hatred, affirming strong opposition against it.
