Austrians turn Easter into a shopping season!

This year, Easter in Austria has turned into a major consumer event, with citizens spending an average of 159 euros per person on gifts and holiday foods, according to a survey conducted by Handelsverband (Austrian Trade Association).

In this context, the platform shöpping.at – the online marketplace of Österreichische Post AG (Austrian Post) – presented the main shopping trends for Easter 2025. It seems that children are the focus.

It seems that children are the focus of gifts this season. Robert Hadzetovic, the director of shöpping.at, explained that Lego sets top the list of purchases, along with traditional toy cars that have made a comeback. As for electronic games, Nintendo, Pokémon, and trading cards have seen wide demand from younger age groups. If families do not prefer to gift toys, they choose to equip children for spring with bicycles and backpacks.

Through the analysis of consumer behavior on the platform shöpping.at during the Easter season, several prominent trends emerged: Lego toys are witnessing increasing popularity and are preferred over ready-made models. Families encourage children to play outdoors, which is reflected in the rise in sales of bicycles, helmets, and garden and sand toys. The demand for high-quality bicycles is on the rise, with a preference for locally manufactured products in Austria. School bags and backpacks are also considered popular gifts, as children need enough space to store hidden chocolate bunnies.

As for the geographical distribution of purchases, there is a clear difference between the east and west of the country. In Burgenland, Wien (Vienna), Niederösterreich, Steiermark, and Salzburg, Lego sets top the purchase list. In contrast, the states of Oberösterreich, Kärnten, Tirol, and Vorarlberg prefer small car toys.
