Infant killed in a bag in Klagenfurt and the public prosecutor is searching for the parents
The police in Klagenfurt are investigating a horrific crime after the body of a newborn baby was found in Europapark, near the Starnacht theater. The body was of a male child whose umbilical cord was still attached, indicating that he was killed immediately after birth or during the trauma resulting from it.
The baby was found on the morning of June 29 between 6:30 and 9:00 on a hill known as "Iriskogel" in the park. He was placed inside a large light purple shopping bag belonging to a well-known Scandinavian store and bearing words in English such as "DREAMS", "SLEEPING", "AFFORDABLE", and "SCANDINAVIAN".
Initial investigations indicate the involvement of a young man and woman in the incident, as it is believed that they gave birth without any medical assistance and then killed the child and hid the body in the bushes inside the distinctive bag. The public prosecutor's office in Klagenfurt published a picture of the bag and requested anyone who saw the couple or the bag on the last Sunday of June to go to the nearest police station or contact the regional criminal office. No accurate descriptions of the couple have been provided so far.
The case is being investigated under the provision of "killing a child during birth" according to paragraph 79 of the Austrian Penal Code, and not as a murder. The investigations involve the mother as well as unknown parties. Evidence suggests that the birth did not occur in a hospital or with the assistance of a midwife.
It is worth noting that pregnant women in Austria can give birth anonymously in hospitals or hand over their newborns to designated nurseries without revealing their identities.
