300 reports and 17 arrested at the Donauinselfest festival
Three days after the Donauinselfest festival on the Danube Island in Vienna, the police announced on Monday that the event went smoothly and without major incidents from a security perspective, despite the attendance of hundreds of thousands of visitors.
Seventeen arrests have been recorded, including five under the Criminal Procedure Law, related to resisting authority and serious threats. Nine people were also arrested under the Administrative Penal Code, and three under the Foreigners Police Law. Additionally, 297 reports were recorded, including 103 criminal reports and 194 administrative ones.
The event also witnessed a brief search in "Neue Donau" after a man was reported missing for a short time, but he was later found safe on the other bank. The police participated daily from Friday to Sunday with several hundred officers, including plainclothes personnel, special units like WEGA, and a police dog unit. A central command room also coordinated the security operations.
Thorough inspections were carried out at the entrances, especially at the Floridsdorfer, Reichsbrücke, and Brigittenauer bridges. Three teams of drones were used to assess the situation directly, along with 40 cameras to monitor security-sensitive areas.
The "Crime Mapping" technique has also been used, which is a modern method for monitoring, analyzing, and visualizing crime data on geographic maps, aimed at early detection of crime hotspots and effectively addressing them.
