Germany is preparing to host the Syrian president in Berlin next week for high-level talks aimed at reshaping political and economic relations between the two countries, in his first official visit since taking office.

The German government announced that the Syrian president, Ahmad al-Shara, will arrive in the German capital on January 19 for a two-day visit, indicating that the visit reflects Berlin's desire to open a new phase of communication with the current Syrian leadership.

During the visit, President Ahmad al-Shar'a will hold a bilateral meeting with advisor Friedrich Merz, where discussions are expected to focus on the political transition phase in Syria, regional developments, and prospects for enhancing diplomatic cooperation.

The visit will also include a roundtable meeting with representatives from major German companies, attended by Foreign Minister Johan Fadibol and Minister of Economy Katarina Reiche, highlighting Germany's interest in the Syrian economic recovery file and future investment opportunities.

In addition, President Ahmad Al-Shar' is scheduled to meet with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at Bellevue Palace, where the discussions will also address the issue of refugee return, which is a matter of great importance to both countries in the search for long-term solutions.
