Government Bonus Boom: Households Save Big on Appliance Repairs
Austria’s “Geräte-Reparaturbonus” (Equipment Rescue Bonus) has seen massive demand since its relaunch in January 2026, with nearly 60,000 vouchers already redeemed, according to the Ministry of the Environment.
By March 26, around 65,300 vouchers had been issued, with approximately 59,000 already used. So far, payments have been completed for about 2,100 claims, highlighting the rapid adoption of the program by households.
Repairs are currently carried out at around 2,280 partner businesses nationwide. Coffee machines are the most frequently repaired items, followed by washing machines, dishwashers, laptops, and ovens.
Environment Minister نوربرت توتشنيغ praised the program, saying the high usage shows people are actively choosing repair over replacement, helping reduce costs while supporting environmental and climate protection.
The bonus is only available through an online application process and covers 50% of repair costs up to €130, although the digital-only system has drawn criticism from some groups who find it difficult to access.
