German military support for Ukraine will reach 40 billion euros in the coming years
Germany announced that its military aid to Ukraine will reach 40 billion euros in the coming years, according to a statement issued by the German Foreign Ministry.
In addition to military aid, Berlin has allocated 34 billion euros for civilian support. This funding will cover a wide range of needs, including enhancing Ukraine's air defense, large-scale winter aid programs, rebuilding the energy system, humanitarian assistance, demining efforts, and providing essential equipment for civilian security forces.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that the support will come from Bundeswehr stocks and from industrial deliveries of weapons and equipment. Officials confirmed that Germany's commitment reflects long-term support for Ukraine amid the ongoing Russian invasion.
This announcement comes alongside a new funding mechanism agreed upon by five European NATO members to finance Ukraine's arms purchases from the United States. Germany and the Netherlands have pledged to provide 500 million euros each, while Sweden, Norway, and Denmark will supply the remaining contributions.
According to figures released by the Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW Kiel), Europe has surpassed the United States in total military aid provided to Ukraine by mid-2025. European contributions reached 35.1 billion euros, exceeding American support by 4.4 billion euros.
