Significant expansion in train services: NS announces additional trains and longer operating hours
NS has announced a major expansion of its train schedule for next year, with trains running earlier and continuing later in many areas of the Netherlands.
The new timetable will come into effect on Sunday, December 14, with a clear goal of improving connectivity between different regions. One of the main changes is the enhancement of the connection between the provinces of Zeeland and Noord-Brabant, where trains between Zwolle and Roosendaal will continue their journey once every hour to Vlissingen.
More trains will also be operated in other areas to improve service. Additional Intercity trains will run between Amersfoort and Deventer even outside peak hours. On weekends, additional Sprinters will operate between Uitgeest and Amsterdam Centraal to provide more trips for travelers.
The Oude Lijn route will also see significant improvements. Between Den Haag Centraal and Dordrecht, the number of Sprinter services on Saturdays will double to four trains per hour instead of two. This expansion comes in preparation for the increase in planned housing to be built along this line.
International travel will also benefit from the addition of a new Eurostar between Amsterdam and London next year. NS indicates that other routes across the country will see additional trains operating, with full details available for each province on the NS website.
