Student stabbed in Vienna: 16-year-old girl injured and the chase is ongoing
The Brigittenau district in Vienna witnessed a shocking incident on Tuesday morning when a 16-year-old girl was stabbed near a school. She was quickly taken to the hospital, where doctors confirmed her condition was stable and her life was no longer in danger. The police launched a wide manhunt to find the perpetrator, but by noon no arrests had been made.
During the investigation, Karajangasse Secondary School temporarily suspended classes, as the police searched the entire building but found no suspects inside. Classes resumed later in the afternoon, while the area around the school remained tense with gatherings of concerned students, parents, teachers, and neighbors.
A large police force has spread across the site, including the special operations unit WEGA and the canine unit. The circumstances of the incident remain unclear, as the state criminal police office has taken over the investigation. Authorities have not yet revealed the identity of the suspect or their motives.
During the search, the police found two knives near the school—one inside the building next to where the victim was found, and another outside. It is still unclear whether either of them is the murder weapon. The police confirmed that investigations are still ongoing.
The incident sparked discontent among parents who felt a lack of communication with them. One mother told the APA agency that she only learned about the incident through a Facebook group before rushing to the school out of fear for her daughter. For its part, the education department defended its position, emphasizing that any information must be coordinated with the police before being announced. It confirmed that parents would receive notifications soon, noting that all schools in Vienna have specific guidelines for dealing with such crises.
