Dutch Skating Queen Strikes Gold Again in Olympic Thriller
Dutch short-track star زاندرا فيلزبوير won her second Olympic gold medal on Monday after claiming victory in the 1,000 metres final at the Olympic Games.
She took over the Olympic title from سوزان شولتينغ, who had won the event in 2018 and 2022. Canada’s كورتني سارولت finished second to win silver, while South Korea’s كيم جيلي secured bronze.
The 1,000 metres is not considered her strongest distance. She reached the podium only once in this event during the current Wereldbeker (World Cup) season. However, her earlier gold in the 500 metres made her the favorite going into the final.
With this victory, the Dutch short-track team now has four gold medals, marking their best Olympic performance ever. Gold medals have already been won in the men’s 500 metres and women’s 1,500 metres, with two relay finals still to come.
In contrast, the Dutch langebaan (long track) squad, traditionally the country’s strongest skating discipline, has so far collected two gold medals, trailing behind the short-track team’s record-breaking success.
