CDA accuses PVV of 'satirical policy' and IND warns of chaos
A severe dispute erupted in the Dutch parliament between the CDA and PVV parties regarding the new asylum laws, with the CDA accusing its counterpart PVV of adopting a "mocking policy" that does not take into account the implementation of laws on the ground. The leader of the CDA party, Pontenbal, called for postponing the application of the new refugee classification system until it coincides with the European migration agreement scheduled to be implemented in June, warning of chaos if successive amendments are made without coordination.
The proposal was met with a firm rejection from MP Marina van der Veldt of the PVV, who mocked the CDA's request and considered it a "weakness" in the desire to take strict measures, emphasizing that her party prioritizes reducing the number of asylum seekers, regardless of the opinion of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND).
Bontinbal emphasized that his party does not oppose tightening, but the law must be enforceable without causing administrative paralysis. He also warned against ignoring the IND's warnings, which called for the application of laws in conjunction with the European agreement to avoid overburdening the administrative apparatus.
The IND expressed its concerns about the duplication of amendments, emphasizing that implementing national changes and then applying European amendments later will lead to uncontrollable pressure within the organization.
It seems that the division among the parties makes the fate of the laws uncertain, especially with parties like PvdA/GL and D66 announcing their lack of support for the current proposals, making CDA's approval crucial for their passage.
