Eastern Austria faces additional days of ice as frost continues, according to the weather warning.
Eastern Austria will face several additional days of icy conditions, as Vienna and Lower Austria cannot thaw due to the continued cold air at ground level, according to meteorologist Nikolaus Zimmerman. Ice on roads, pathways, and trees still poses a significant danger.
Zimmerman explained that the weather balloon from Linz showed a layer of warm air at about 1000 meters above the ground, while the cold air remains frozen at the surface. This mixture keeps temperatures below zero and prevents any melting in the area.
The meteorological department warned that Wednesday and Thursday will see temperatures rise below zero, which means frost will continue. Residents are advised to take utmost caution, as ice on roads, trees, and unremoved pathways remains extremely dangerous.
The weather forecast indicates that Tuesday will remain mostly dry in the east, despite continued light freezing rain in the Weinviertel and northern Burgenland areas. The western and southern regions will experience dry conditions with sunshine and clouds, and the winds will be light to moderate from the west.
During Thursday and Friday, some light snow or freezing rain may fall, especially in low-lying areas and near the Czech border. Dense fog and high fog will continue in the east, making outdoor mobility hazardous. Meteorologists advise residents to avoid streets in affected areas whenever possible.
