Aldi recalls a product containing glass and warns against its consumption

I. Schmidt Handelsgesellschaft mbH has issued an urgent recall of sour cherry products under Aldi's private label "Sweet Valley" due to the presence of glass shards in the packaging that may cause serious injuries if consumed.

The German authorities, specifically the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL), issued an official warning through the portal lebensmittelwarnung.de, confirming that the product is unsafe for consumption. It is feared that glass shards may cause injuries to the mouth, throat, or digestive system.

The affected product is pitted sour cherries that are lightly sweetened, packed in a 720 milliliter container, with a shelf life until December 31, 2027. The shipment number is E16777-A03, and its barcode is 4061458008198 / 29041008. The distribution areas affected by this recall include Berlin, Bayern, Hessen, and Nordrhein-Westfalen.

The warnings also came from the website produktwarnung.eu, but some experts expressed their dissatisfaction with the lack of information available on how to return the product. However, according to the instructions from the German Consumer Protection Center, any customer can return the product to any Aldi branch even without a purchase receipt and receive a full refund.

In case of suspicion of swallowing a sharp object, it is advised to seek medical care immediately and not to attempt to induce vomiting or remove the object manually, as this may increase the severity of the situation. The recall only includes a specific batch of the product, but the warning remains in place to protect consumers and avoid any serious health incidents.
