Urgent recall from Aldi: Do not eat the fruit under any circumstances
Aldi Nord announced a recall of a dried fruit product after discovering dangerous fungal toxins during routine inspections. The product in question is "Trader Joe’s Soft Fruits, 250 g, Fig Variety" produced by Die Frischebox GmbH, and it has been sold in several German states, including Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hesse, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Thuringia.
Laboratory tests showed elevated levels of Aflatoxin, a dangerous fungal toxin. The affected batch has an expiration date of March 28, 2026. The company warned customers who purchased this product not to consume it under any circumstances due to health risks.
Aldi confirmed that the product can be returned to any Aldi Nord store, with a refund even without a purchase receipt. The company also emphasized that the recall is limited only to this product and this specific batch.
Health authorities have warned about the dangers of Aflatoxin A, as the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) explained that this toxin can form in foods such as dried fruits when stored improperly. Over time, even small amounts of it can accumulate in the body and cause kidney damage.
The institute added that Aflatoxin A is classified as a substance that may be carcinogenic, as studies on animals have shown evidence of its association with cancer, making this recall urgent and necessary. Customers were strongly advised to return the product and avoid its consumption.
