Telecom companies are raising contract prices.
Starting from April 2025, the prices of many mobile phone contracts in Austria will rise again. The main reason is the linkage of these contracts to the consumer price index (Verbraucherpreisindex - VPI), as specific clauses within the contracts, known as Wertsicherungsklauseln, allow for annual price increases without granting customers the right to terminate the contract exceptionally.
Last year, many consumers had to endure an increase of about 8% due to inflation, and this year an additional 2.9% will be added to prices. This means that subscribers to these contracts will have to pay more each year for the same service.
However, there is a positive exception in the market: the Austrian company spusu, a family-owned business from the Weinviertel region, relies on transparency and refuses to apply hidden fees or increases linked to the CPI, nor does it impose additional charges for services. This approach sets it apart as a different player in the telecommunications market and provides consumers with a fairer and more stable pricing option.
