German children find a human skull in a forest

A regular school trip in Germany turned into a shocking scene after young students found a human skull in a wooded area in the city of Cologne, raising serious questions about a mysterious death linked to previous discoveries along the banks of the Rhine River.

The discovery was made by fifth-grade students while walking through a small wooded area in the Vogelsang neighborhood of Cologne. During their stroll, the children first noticed bone fragments believed to belong to arms and legs, before finding a human skull lying on the ground and covered only by leaves.

The police later confirmed that DNA tests matched the skull and bones with a headless torso found last year on the banks of the Rhine River (Rhein in German). This torso, which was missing the head and arms, was discovered by local teenagers inside a plastic bag in July.

At that time, investigators identified the victim as a light-skinned man aged between 20 and 35, according to Die Welt newspaper. His clothing and physical characteristics did not match any missing persons reports, and his DNA had not been previously recorded in police databases.

The wooded area is located between a dog training center and a sports field, just a few meters away from a trampoline, according to the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger newspaper. The police are currently investigating whether the site is a crime scene, especially after finding indications that someone may have stayed there. Forensic examinations are still ongoing in an attempt to uncover the victim's identity and determine whether the crime was murder.
