Police officers are attacked with fireworks at an illegal car gathering in Bodegraven-Dorpelijn

A number of individuals attacked police officers in the village of Boedil-Dorplain in the Brabant province last night, where they were targeted with fireworks and bottles while attempting to disperse an illegal car gathering. The gathering included street races and dangerous stunts, attracting participants from the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany.

According to the police, about 200 vehicles participated in the event. The drivers performed 'burnout' maneuvers that released thick smoke in the streets, and fireworks were launched causing chaos. Reports of speeding cars in the Kirkby area led to authorities intervening.

Upon the officers' arrival, they faced fierce resistance, as fireworks and glass were thrown at them, while one police car was surrounded and vandalized. Additional units from the regional police, including dog teams, were called in to control the situation.

Two officers sustained hearing damage as a result of the attack and filed official reports. A separate complaint was also registered regarding the damaged police vehicle. The police confirmed that they arrested one of the suspects in connection with the incident.

Earlier that same evening, the police dispersed another illegal car gathering in the city of Helmond, where around 50 vehicles had gathered. The police reported that participants caused a disturbance by playing loud music, setting off fireworks, and driving recklessly. An investigation is still ongoing to determine whether the same group participated in both gatherings.
