Germany plans a care allowance for families!

German Family Minister Karin Breyer said that the care system in Germany is no longer sustainable by relying solely on specialized workers. Due to demographic changes, the minister believes that relatives of people in need of care should receive financial support for their efforts.

Briin announced her intention to establish a new social service called "Care Allowance" which will serve as compensation for lost wages for those who dedicate themselves to caring for their relatives. She confirmed that Germany has a "huge interest" in providing this type of support, as it helps alleviate the burden on millions of people, just as the "Parental Allowance" did.

The minister spoke about several potential models for starting this support, such as determining the duration of receiving it, the value of the allowance, or even linking it to the income level.

Despite the previous agreement between the Union and SPD to implement deep structural reforms in the health and care sectors, there is still a lack of a clear plan to implement this allowance.

The minister linked the implementation of the project to the improvement of the economic situation, but she emphasized that her top priority remains achieving justice in opportunities for children and youth.
