Temperatures are expected to rise significantly in the Netherlands on Sunday, amid warnings from weather experts that the country may record a new heat record in December, possibly occurring around midnight. Meteorologists describe these conditions as "completely unusual for this time of year."
The day will start relatively quietly with dry weather and temperatures around 10 degrees, according to Weerplaza. Later, a rain area will cross, followed by a warm front over the country, pushing temperatures to around 14 degrees late in the afternoon or in the evening. A spokesperson for Weerplaza said the peak could come around ten o'clock in the evening, which is a very late moment for such warmth.
If the temperature in De Bilt exceeds 13.8 degrees, a new official temperature record will be set for this day. However, the warm weather will not be comfortable, as it will be accompanied by strong winds and large amounts of rain, especially on Sunday evening.
The warmth is not limited to the weekend. Weeronline forecasts indicate that temperatures may remain above 10 degrees throughout next week, and may locally reach 15 degrees. Typically, December temperatures range between 6 and 7 degrees during the day. Weather experts indicate that nighttime temperatures are now higher than what daytime temperatures are supposed to be.
In Southern Europe, the weather may feel like late summer, with temperatures in some areas reaching 20 degrees and sunny conditions, adding to the oddity of weather patterns across the continent.
