The unemployment rate among foreigners in Austria rises with 320,350 unemployed recorded at the end of November.

Unemployment rates among foreigners in Austria have risen significantly, with 320,350 unemployed recorded by the end of November 2025. Data from the Arbeitsmarktservice (Public Employment Service - AMS) indicates that foreigners are the most affected group.

According to the figures published by the newspaper Heute, the number of unemployed has increased by about 16,000 people compared to November 2024, representing an increase of 5.2%. The overall unemployment rate has also risen to 7.5%, an increase of 0.3 percentage points from the previous year. These figures reflect the continued slowdown of the Austrian labor market.

When adding the registrants in the training programs affiliated with AMS, the total number of people not linked to stable work reaches 399,199, an increase of 15,236 or 4%. Analysts confirm that the labor market has not shown any real signs of recovery in recent months despite support programs.

Unemployment among foreigners rose by 5.3%, slightly higher than the increase recorded among Austrian citizens at 5.2%. Female unemployment increased significantly to 7.4%, compared to 3.5% among men. Youth unemployment rose by 2%, while the number of participants in AMS training programs increased by 16.6%, despite a decrease in available training opportunities by about 1,251.

The report reveals a concerning rise in long-term unemployment; the number of registered individuals in AMS for more than a year has reached 95,472, an increase of 13.2%. Job vacancies continue to decline sharply, with a decrease of 13.2% to only 71,933 positions, along with a slight decrease of 1.9% in newly registered jobs.

Despite the overall negative trend, AMS data shows the effectiveness of training programs. The Gleichstellungsmonitoring report indicates a slight improvement in women's employment and strong growth in the employment of those over sixty, with 19,200 new jobs — an increase of 28.3%. AMS also confirms that qualification programs, such as the Fachkräftestipendium program, have contributed to raising the average monthly income after training by about 600 euros, enhancing their importance in improving long-term job opportunities.
