Georgian forced to leave the country: Asylum seeker brutally attacks refugee assistants

A 34-year-old man from Georgia violently attacked asylum staff in the town of Nordhausen in Thuringia, resulting in severe injuries that led to their hospitalization. This shocking attack has caused great distress among the employer and local authorities. The attacker is a rejected asylum seeker legally obligated to leave Germany.

The two victims, aged 56 and 65, are social workers employed by Immanuel Albertinen Diakonie, an organization that promotes tolerance, respect, and the rejection of violence. They had previously assisted this Georgian and his family with official procedures, including helping him register one of his children in a primary school in the village of Vahrenhausen.

The attack occurred while returning to the parking lot after the registration visit, where the Georgian became physically aggressive, attacking one of the assistants and then hitting the second colleague who came to help. The victims sustained serious injuries to the upper body and face, and are still receiving medical treatment. The police have begun investigations into the case of physical assault.

According to investigations by FOCUS online, the Georgian entered Germany in early 2025 and applied for asylum, which was rejected by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (Bamf) in July 2025 as 'clearly unjustified'. His appeal was also rejected, and he is now legally obliged to leave the country. Since November 2023, Germany has classified Georgia as a 'safe country of origin', making asylum applications from Georgian citizens mostly ineligible.

District Director Peggy Greiser emphasized that violence against employees or citizens is unacceptable and must have immediate consequences, calling for the swift deportation of the assailant. The district is working in coordination with the police, government authorities, and the attorney general to ensure the safety of citizens and employees. The employer condemned this attack and provided full support to the affected social workers to help them recover from the brutal assault.
