A power outage paralyzes neighborhoods in Vienna at dawn

The Austrian capital Vienna experienced a sudden power outage early Monday morning, affecting more than 8,000 homes. The company "Wiener Netze," responsible for the electricity network, reported that the fault began overnight and extended into the morning hours.

Multiple areas in Vienna were affected, including parts of Liesing, Meidling, Favoriten, Hietzing, as well as the Vösendorf area located in Lower Austria (Niederösterreich). The first electrical problems began before 3 AM, with additional cases appearing around 6:30 AM.

The company clarified that it is working at full capacity to fix the outage and confirmed that the electrical supply is gradually returning. By 7 AM, the number of affected homes had decreased to around 70 only.

The malfunction also caused a temporary halt to the U6 subway line between Alterlass and Westbahnhof stations.

Although more than 8,300 homes lost power at the height of the crisis, most of the outages were quickly repaired.
