New EU Plans: Travel Tickets and Digital ID to be Linked
The European Union is planning new rules for travel in Europe. A new regulation from the EU Commission envisages that travel tickets for trains and planes will be linked to a digital ID in the future. The goal of this project is to make travel more convenient and easier for citizens within the member states.
In practice, this means that the QR codes on tickets are directly linked to the European digital identity. Travelers will then have to present fewer documents during checks or at the airport. Since all important information is stored in one place, this is expected to save a lot of time when processing travel.
This measure is part of a larger EU strategy to digitalize administration and people's daily lives. Especially for travel across national borders, the new rules are intended to help speed up processes and reduce bureaucracy. The EU Commission emphasizes that the security of personal data plays a central role in guaranteeing the protection of privacy.
The new regulation still needs final confirmation before it officially comes into force in all member states.
