Thieves blow up ATMs of Bank Austria at dawn
In the early hours of Thursday morning, ATMs inside the Bank Austria branch on Zschokkegasse Street in the Donaustadt area of Vienna were violently attacked, with unknown individuals blowing up two machines and stealing their contents before fleeing. The explosion occurred around 3:15 AM.
Despite the immediate intervention of the police and the use of a helicopter in the search operations, the perpetrators have not yet been apprehended, and their identities remain unknown. Vienna police spokesperson Anna Gutt stated that the amount stolen is still unknown, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the circumstances of the crime.
This incident adds to a continuous series of ATM bombings that Austria has witnessed recently. One of the Bawag branches in the city of Villach had closed its self-service area after experiencing similar incidents.
In April, the police shot a suspect while he was attempting to carry out a similar bombing at another branch of Bank Austria in Vienna.
