The Austrian Freedom Party calls for a halt to asylum and a ban on Islam following reports of 'religious conflicts' in Vienna schools.

Reports about rising cultural and religious tensions in Vienna schools have sparked widespread political debate in Austria. Teachers and school administrations have expressed their concerns about challenges related to respect, discipline, and religious conflicts among students. The newspaper Heute highlighted these issues after gathering testimonies from educators across the city.

Thomas Krebs, a representative of the teachers' union in Vienna, said that teaching has become increasingly difficult due to "a lack of respect for female teachers, a rejection of democratic and Western values, and bullying of students from different religions." He also pointed out that some Muslim teachers refuse to shake hands with their female colleagues for religious reasons, which he described as a direct challenge to the principle of equality and mutual respect.

Christian Klar, the school principal in the Floridsdorf district, warned of "the escalation of religious conflicts within classrooms." Klar, who recently published a book with 25 chapters addressing violence, migration, integration, and religion, emphasized the need to defend Western culture, stressing that schools must maintain clear boundaries to uphold shared societal values.

The Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ) strongly responded to these reports. Udo Landbauer, the party leader in Lower Austria, blamed what he described as the previous government's "failed asylum policy," stating that it allowed "political Islam" to infiltrate schools. He emphasized that asylum seekers fleeing extremism in their countries are now bringing conflicts into Austrian classrooms.

The Freedom Party has put forward a series of controversial demands, including an immediate halt to asylum applications, tightening deportation procedures for violators, and enhancing border protection. Landbauer stated, "Anyone who does not want to integrate must leave, period." The topic has sparked widespread debate among political and educational circles in Austria, with many urging a focus on maintaining an educational environment based on respect and shared values rather than politicizing schools.
