Retired truck driver receives 12,000 euros after discovering a payroll error
A truck driver from the Ried area in Upper Austria received more than 12,000 euros as a due payment after retiring from the same company he worked for over 35 years. The discovery came when the Chamber of Labor (Arbeiterkammer) reviewed his salary records after his retirement.
Throughout his long career, the man regularly worked overtime. Upon his retirement by mutual agreement with the employer, he brought his final paycheck to the Red area labor office for a routine review. The review revealed that the overtime hours were not included in the calculation of the end-of-service benefits.
After the company was informed of the error by the chamber, it recalculated the amount due. The correction resulted in an additional payment of over 12,000 euros to the retired worker, giving him a more comfortable start to his life after retirement.
Andreas Stangl, the head of the Chamber of Labor, praised the result, describing it as evidence of the importance of obtaining legal and financial advice from the chamber. He said, "If you have any questions or need support, you can contact the Chamber of Labor at any time."
This issue serves as a reminder to employees to review their payroll records, especially when leaving work, to ensure that all entitlements and benefits – such as overtime pay – are calculated correctly.
