70 thousand euros in compensation due to a photo
After 18 years of working without issues, a Viennese employee named Armin W. was immediately dismissed from his job at a publishing house due to a photo posted by his wife on social media. Although he was known for his discipline and commitment, he found himself in unexpected trouble after contracting the coronavirus.
During his illness at home, it coincidentally coincided with the anniversary of his marriage. On this occasion, his wife decided to share an old photo of them from a previous trip online. The photo was just a memory, but it raised suspicions with the employer, who thought that Armin was on unauthorized leave during his illness.
Without communicating with him or verifying the matter, the employer fired him immediately. Armin expressed his shock, saying: "No one spoke to me. It would have been easy to clarify the mistake, but they fired me right away."
In a state of despair, Armin turned to the Arbeiterkammer Wien (Workers' Chamber in Vienna), which intervened immediately and contacted the employer.
After legal negotiations, Armin received compensation exceeding 70,000 euros, in addition to entitlements for his unused vacation days.
