Türkiye denies taking migrants from Germany under EU deal
Türkiye has firmly denied reports claiming that Germany is sending irregular migrants from countries such as Syria, Afghanistan, and Pakistan to Türkiye under a readmission agreement with the European Union.
In a statement released on June 10, the Center for Countering Disinformation (Dezenformasyonla Mücadele Merkezi – DMM) said that reports circulating in some media outlets were inaccurate and did not reflect the actual terms of the agreement.
According to the center, Türkiye does not accept third-country nationals who are returned from other countries. Officials stressed that there is no policy or practice allowing migrants from non-Turkish countries to be transferred to Türkiye under the current framework.
DMM also stated that it is not legally possible for foreigners who have criminal records or who no longer have legal residence rights in Germany to be sent back to Türkiye. The agency rejected suggestions that such individuals could be deported to the country through existing agreements.
The center clarified that the Türkiye-European Union Readmission Agreement (Türkiye-Avrupa Birliği Geri Kabul Anlaşması) applies only to Turkish citizens. Foreign nationals, it said, are not returned to Türkiye but are instead sent back to their respective countries of origin in accordance with international procedures.
Authorities further announced that legal action has been initiated against individuals accused of spreading what officials described as misleading and provocative information intended to create public confusion.
The Center for Countering Disinformation urged citizens to rely on information released by official institutions and to avoid trusting unverified claims circulating through media reports and social media platforms.
