The holiday schedule is in effect: reducing the number of trains during peak hours, Christmas, and New Year's.

Today, NS (Nederlandse Spoorwegen, the Dutch Railways) started implementing a special holiday schedule, reducing the number of trains during peak hours on several lines due to the start of the school Christmas holiday.

The revised schedule will remain in effect until January 2. Many regional transport companies have also switched to modified schedules. On Christmas Day, trains will operate according to the Sunday schedule, while buses, trams, and the metro will also run at a reduced frequency.

Authorities said the changes reflect a decrease in passenger numbers during the holiday period. Travelers are strongly advised to check the flight schedule before departure to avoid unexpected delays or missed connections.

Additional disruptions are expected on New Year's Eve. On December 31, most public transport across the country will stop operating from 8:00 PM. The main exception is the round-trip line to and from Schiphol Airport, where trains will continue to operate until 10:00 PM.

In Rotterdam, the metro will operate all night, although it will not stop at all stations. The service will be free on New Year's Eve, according to RET (Rotterdamse Elektrische Tram, Rotterdam Electric Tram). Meanwhile, the NS night train network will start operating from 1:00 AM, including night trains between Haarlem and Amsterdam and Zaandam.

Buses will generally stop operating at 8:00 PM on New Year's Eve, with some routes being shortened or diverted. Some night buses will operate after midnight, but they will not cover all areas.

On New Year's Day, NS services will gradually resume starting around 10:00 AM. Additional express trains will operate between Utrecht and Eindhoven, Arnhem, Amersfoort, and Zwolle. Sprinter trains heading to Schiphol Airport from The Hague, Amersfoort, Alkmaar, and Hoorn will start operating from 6:00 AM.
