Life Like in Space: Isolation Study SOLIS100 Launched in Cologne
An exciting scientific experiment has begun in Cologne. Six volunteers have moved into a special, isolated facility to mark the start of the SOLIS100 study. In the coming months, these participants will live completely separated from the outside world to simulate the conditions of a long space mission.
The group consists of experts with backgrounds in medicine and research. They have extensive experience in science and are now preparing to spend 100 days in a sealed environment. During this time, they will have no direct physical contact with other people or their familiar surroundings.
The goal of SOLIS100 is to investigate the effects of isolation on the human body and psyche. When astronauts travel to Mars or other distant destinations in the future, they will have to work together in a confined space for a long time. Researchers want to understand how stress, loneliness, and limited communication affect the participants' health.
In their accommodation, the volunteers perform various scientific tasks. For example, they are investigating how their sleep and nutrition change under these special conditions. This data is of great importance to organizations such as the European Space Agency (ESA) in order to make future space travel safer.
The study in Cologne is an important step for astronautical space travel. The results will help develop new strategies for living and working in space. For the six participants, it is a great challenge, but also a unique opportunity to contribute to the exploration of the universe.
