Gasoline and diesel prices are rising due to the war in the Middle East

Since the outbreak of war between the US, Israel, and Iran, drivers across Germany are facing an immediate and painful rise in fuel prices. Long queues have formed at petrol stations as millions rush to fill their tanks before costs climb even higher.

According to Herbert Rabl, spokesman for the gas station trade association, the situation has become tense nationwide. He reported to Agence France-Presse that queues appeared as early as Sunday and spread rapidly across the country. Many motorists fear further price increases and are trying to secure fuel in advance.

Fuel station operators expect prices to continue rising in the coming days. Rabl warned that major oil companies are likely to add an extra two to three percent to their costs due to the war. His association represents around 1,000 petrol station operators throughout Germany.

The German automobile club ADAC also confirmed sharp increases. The average price of Super E10 rose from €1.780 per liter on Friday to €1.830 by Monday. Diesel climbed from €1.749 to €1.801 over the same period. ADAC officials stated that further increases are likely.

The conflict has pushed global oil prices higher because Iran controls the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil routes. Around one-fifth of global oil production passes through this strait each day. After three ships were attacked there on Sunday, several shipping companies suspended transit, raising fears of supply disruptions and further price hikes.
