Warning of Software Errors: KBV Reports Problems with Medication Plans
The National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV) has issued an important warning for medical practices in Germany. There are technical problems with the software that doctors use for their daily work. These errors can lead to medication information being displayed incorrectly in the system.
The problem occurs when the nationwide uniform medication plan is imported into the practice management system. This plan contains all medications that a patient is taking. Due to a software error, the dosages – the exact amount of medicine – are sometimes not transferred correctly. This means that the computer may show a different value than what is on the patient's original plan.
Such transmission errors are risky because they can lead to incorrect treatment. If a doctor relies solely on the digital display, they might prescribe a dose that is too high or too low. This could endanger the health of patients. Therefore, it is currently particularly important for medical staff to check the data precisely.
The KBV advises all doctors to carefully compare the imported data with the original plan. One should not rely blindly on technology at the moment. The software manufacturers have already been informed about the problem and are working on a solution to avoid these technical errors in the future.
This incident shows that digitalization in healthcare still faces major challenges. Safety must always take precedence over speed, especially when it comes to prescribing medication. Patients who are unsure about their dosage should check directly with their doctor for safety.
