A right-wing extremist runs over Syrian children after racist insults.
On Monday evening, a horrific racist incident occurred in the city of Magdeburg in the German state of Sachsen-Anhalt, where three people, including two children, were injured after a 61-year-old German man deliberately ran them over with his car following his racist insults directed at them.
According to the newspaper "Bild", a group of women and children of foreign origin, including Syrians, were present in a playground when they were subjected to racist insults by the accused. The man left the place first, but later returned in his car at a time when a 25-year-old woman and two children (3 and 5 years old) were about to leave the playground around 21:55.
Suddenly, the man sped towards the group standing in the parking lot. The 3-year-old child got stuck under the car and suffered bruises and scratches, while the other child and the woman sustained minor injuries from the car's contact with them. The perpetrator tried to flee after the attack, but the police stopped him after just a few hundred meters and arrested him. Despite the seriousness of the incident, the man was temporarily released from custody, according to prosecutor Frank Baumgarten, as reported by the "Bild" newspaper.
The investigations began with the charge of causing serious bodily injuries, but the authorities are now considering the possibility of charging attempted murder, pending the results of evidence analysis and witness testimonies.
Reports indicate that the accused is known to the police, having previously been involved in several crimes with a racist background, and he has also been convicted of using prohibited symbols related to ideologies opposed to the German constitution.
