The snowstorm is moving south after covering the northern part of the country.

A powerful snowstorm is moving southward, causing major disruptions in northern Germany, bringing with it heavy snowfall and a sharp drop in temperatures, as transport services begin to gradually resume after widespread cancellations and delays.

After heavy snowfall hit the northern regions on Friday, conditions began to improve somewhat on Saturday. However, southern Germany is now preparing for harsh winter weather, as meteorologists have warned of significant snow accumulations overnight.

The Allgäu region in the states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg is expected to receive between 20 and 30 centimeters of snow, while the Black Forest region may see up to 50 centimeters, according to weather forecasts.

Train services are still suffering from severe restrictions despite their partial resumption. The German railway company Deutsche Bahn announced that long-distance trains will resume operations around noon after previous delays, but services will remain limited. This comes after a day that saw a near-total shutdown of transport, including the cancellation of buses and trains in the city of Hannover and the surrounding areas, as well as numerous traffic accidents.

Despite the widespread disruptions, the storm had a positive side for winter sports enthusiasts, as the ski areas in Saxony (Sachsen), Thuringia (Thüringen), and Hesse (Hessen) reported excellent conditions. At the same time, temperatures across Germany are expected to drop sharply, with the possibility of reaching around minus 15 degrees Celsius at night in some areas.
