The Netherlands joins other countries in condemning Israeli expansion in the West Bank
The Netherlands joined 13 other countries in condemning Israel's decision to approve 19 new settlements in the occupied West Bank, warning that this step could lead to destabilization in the region and violate international law.
The joint statement, signed by Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Iceland, Ireland, Japan, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, and the UK, confirmed that settlements pose a threat to the implementation of the peace plan in Gaza and to long-term regional security.
The signatories called on Israel to reverse the decision and halt any further expansion of settlements, reaffirming their commitment to a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace based on the two-state solution as defined by the United Nations Security Council.
The statement reiterated support for the Palestinians' right to self-determination, warning that the continued growth of settlements threatens the chances of achieving sustainable peace and stability in the region.
Last Sunday, Israel approved new settlements, bringing the total to 69 settlements, according to far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, which sparked international criticism and calls for diplomatic intervention.
