Buma: The differences between D66, VVD, GL-PvdA, CDA, and JA21 are "bridgeable"
The former appointee Cybran Bouma believes that the political differences between D66, CDA, VVD, GroenLinks-PvdA, and JA21 are "bridgable." He shared this conclusion after meeting with the leaders of the five parties amid the stalled government formation.
Buma pointed out that while there is enough common ground to continue political discussions, the willingness to cooperate remains a significant obstacle. The five parties all found elements in the "positive agenda" previously proposed by D66 and CDA, highlighting potential areas for agreement.
However, VVD continues to rule out cooperation with GroenLinks-PvdA, while D66 remains cautious about a coalition with JA21. These positions have hindered negotiations, keeping a final agreement out of reach.
To move forward, Buma recommended a new round of discussions including VVD. He suggested that this round should be the final information round, aimed at reaching a formal coalition agreement. His advice emphasizes the need to expedite and set a clear goal for the talks.
Due to the lack of a majority for any party in both the Tweede Kamer (House of Representatives) and the Eerste Kamer (Senate), Buma also urged negotiators to directly involve other parties in their discussions. This inclusive approach may be the key to breaking the deadlock and forming a stable government.
