A young man is fighting for his life after a violent police intervention!
A 28-year-old Serbian man remains in critical condition after suffering serious injuries from police gunfire in the Brigittenau area of Vienna on Sunday, June 15. According to the police, he underwent emergency surgery and is currently in the intensive care unit, and his condition remains critical.
The incident occurred after his parents reported to the police out of concern for him, as he was suffering from an unstable mental condition and there was worry that he might harm himself. When the WEGA intervention team arrived at the apartment, the young man approached them holding a knife.
Despite repeated calls from the police, the young man did not respond, prompting the officers to use the taser several times without success. When he continued to advance towards them, and one of the officers became cornered, he shot him at least once. Even after the shooting, it was difficult to control him.
First aid was administered to him on the spot by the professional rescue service in Vienna, and he was then rushed to the hospital. Authorities are still investigating whether he had a previous mental illness or was under the influence of drugs.
The Anti-Corruption and Prevention Office, in cooperation with the regional criminal office, is investigating the circumstances of the use of firearms, as is the case in all similar incidents.
