Vienna Sees One of Its Largest Eid Gatherings with 50,000 Attendees
Around 50,000 Muslims gathered early Friday morning in Vienna-Floridsdorf to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan in one of the city’s largest religious events.
The celebration took place at Bruckhaufen on Donauinsel (Danube Island – جزيرة الدانوب), beginning at approximately 5 a.m. and continuing until midday. While around 60,000 participants had registered, local reports estimated that roughly 50,000 people attended the event.
The large turnout led to significant traffic disruptions in the surrounding area. Major routes, including the Floridsdorfer Bridge and Arbeiterstrandbadstraße, experienced heavy congestion, with motorists facing notable delays as crowds arrived for the gathering.
Authorities organized a major security operation to manage the event. A strong police presence, including special operations units, was deployed to ensure safety and maintain order during the celebrations.
Despite the logistical challenges, the event proceeded peacefully, bringing together thousands of worshippers in a unified celebration of Eid al-Fitr in the Austrian capital.
