Warning: A fake message from BMF threatens to seize your funds

Austria is experiencing a new wave of scam messages targeting citizens to deceive them and steal their personal data. These messages come via mobile phones and claim to be connected to official entities such as the Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF), where scammers attempt to pressure victims by claiming there are outstanding debts that must be paid immediately to avoid seizure.

Recently, a resident of Kärnten received a message claiming to be from BMF, urging him to click a link to avoid seizure actions. The message is completely fake, and it is easy for someone to fall into the trap if they do not act cautiously. Official authorities clearly warn against these attempts. The Ministry of Finance confirmed that all official notifications are issued either by mail or through the personal message box in the FinanzOnline service, and the ministry never asks citizens to provide their personal data such as passwords or bank card information.

Phishing messages contain links that lead to fake sites resembling the FinanzOnline portal, requesting the entry of sensitive data, which may lead to its theft and use for criminal purposes.

Therefore, the ministry warns against following any instructions contained in such messages and urges everyone not to click on links or share any personal information. It advises to delete such messages immediately.

For more information about these official warnings from the Ministry of Finance, you can refer to the official sources online.
