An 8.5% increase in police salaries and bonuses of 2200 euros
The police unions, Justice Minister David van Willaert, and Police Chief Janie Knol have reached an agreement to increase police officers' salaries by 8.5% over the next two years. Under the agreement, officers will also receive a one-time financial bonus of 1100 euros in December 2025, and again in December 2026.
The first salary increase will begin on December 1, with wages gradually rising until July 2027. Police officers working in physically demanding jobs who were born between 1962 and the first quarter of 1965 will also be able to retire early. The agreement also included provisions related to career development and assisting officers in repaying student loans.
Police Chief Jani Knoll expressed her satisfaction with the results of the negotiations, stating on social media that she is "happy" with this agreement. She emphasized the importance of improving the income of police personnel, their career opportunities, and their overall working conditions. She added, "In this way, we remain an attractive and modern employer," stressing the importance of this for the police's standing in the job market and for the future of the department.
The agreement will soon be presented to union members for a vote.
